Shill for hire Chris Merriman: The truth uncovered
Is Chris "The DJ" Merriman a shill for hire, or just someone who is a very bad judge of character? Merriman's history of shilling in news articles and tweets has already been widely publicised, along with the gold prizes he "won" from ex-RCL director Janko Mrsic-Flogel's other Indiegogo campaigns.
Several tech journalists have stated off the record they are aware that Chris Merriman had rung tech publications and spoke to their editors, requesting them not to print negative stories about Retro Computers Limited nor its directors David Levy or Suzanne Martin.
Chris Merriman appears to have an incredibly bad run of "luck" with regards to supporting failed ZX Spectrum projects.
Merriman published an article called Specwars: Accusations fly as the world of retro ZX Spectrum gaming gets ugly in which he stated he "gets on quite well with Steve Wilcox" (of Elite Systems). Other journalists published articles that were more damning and reported the facts rather than opinion. Merriman's article sang the praises of David Levy and his co-directors, publishing a series of blatant lies from David Levy about Paul Andrews and Chris Smith.
On September 27th 2016, Chris Merriman posted an article on The Inquirer called ZX Spectrum Vega+ defies naysayers with confirmed launch date, with a sub heading Game over for the haters. Once again the article praised Levy and Martin, and was published just 6 days after this leaked email:
It appears that not only is Chris Merriman a shill for hire, abusing his position of trust as a journalist at The Inquirer by ringing editors of rival publications to influence them on behalf of his ‘clients’ like Suzanne Martin, but he was also was being paid by both Retro Computers and Elite Systems to publish their propaganda and promote their scam crowdfunding campaigns. Sadly for backers of these failed projects, this is no April Fool joke.

To: David Levy
He is getting greedy, and wants more this time, at least the same as wilcox gives him, and he wants it in cash again, dont think we have a choice but to use him, as he says he can help with other press if the price is right, will press him to get a deal as long as there is no trail back to us

Subject: Launch Date Press Article
Did you speak to Merriman? Did he agree to the same amount as least time? We need the launch date in the press to hold off the indiegogo backers while we think of how to blame Andrews

Confirmation of the shilling that went on from certain individuals during this absolute scandal. What a disgrace!
Well it seems justice has prevailed for once and no surprises there to be honest what a ridiculous bit of behaviour !
"Our Indiegogo campaign is to raise funds to manufacture the first 2,500 or more units of the Vega+ in the UK, and to prepare us for the second production run."
